Connecting Outlook / Hotmail to Menvin

Connect your Outlook, Hotmail, or Microsoft 365 email account to Menvin.

Enable IMAP Access

First, make sure IMAP is enabled in your Outlook account:

Go to outlook.live.com and sign in
Click the Settings gear icon (⚙️) in the top right
Go to View all Outlook settings
Navigate to Mail → Sync email
Under "POP and IMAP", ensure IMAP is enabled
Save your changes

Note: For Microsoft 365 accounts, IMAP is usually enabled by default. If you're having issues, contact your IT administrator.

Check if You Need an App Password

If you have two-factor authentication enabled, you may need an app password:

Go to Microsoft Account Security
If 2FA is enabled, go to Advanced security options
Under App passwords, create a new app password
Label it "Menvin" and copy the password

Tip: If you don't have 2FA enabled, you can use your regular Microsoft account password.

Connect in Menvin

Connect your Outlook account in Menvin:

Go to Menvin Connect page
Select "Outlook / Hotmail" from the provider dropdown
The settings will auto-fill:
- IMAP Host: outlook.office365.com
- IMAP Port: 993
- SMTP Host: smtp.office365.com
- SMTP Port: 587
Enter your full email address as the username
Enter your password (or app password if 2FA is enabled)
Give your mailbox a friendly name (e.g., "Work Email")
Click "Test connection & save mailbox"

Common Issues & Solutions

❌ "Authentication failed"

Solution: If you have two-factor authentication enabled, you need to use an app password instead of your regular password. Generate one in your Microsoft account security settings.

❌ "Connection refused" or "IMAP not enabled"

Solution: Make sure IMAP is enabled in your Outlook settings. Go to Settings → Mail → Sync email and enable IMAP access.

❌ Microsoft 365 / Work account issues

Solution: Some organizations disable IMAP for security. Contact your IT administrator to enable IMAP access, or ask if they have specific IMAP/SMTP server settings for your organization.
